My father was born in Kent so Kent research is an important part of my genealogy. I'll use this blog to post snippets of interest about Kent or people from Kent, interesting Kent websites or any other Kent miscellany I find.

Newspaper Miscellany: Sheather

From Brandon Daily Sun (Canada)  August 14, 1908

THE LATE A. J. SHEATHER

Mr. Alfred J. SHEATHER , the  well-known builder and contractor, passed away at his residence at 7 o'clock  this morning, after an illness extending over some four or five weeks.

The  deceased, who had reached the ripe age of fifty-eight, was born in Kent,  England, in 1850, and emigrated to this district in 1868.  Since then he  has risen to the position of one of Brandon's foremost builders and contractors.

By his straightforward and honest methods he has won the esteem  of all who knew him both in business and in social circles. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters and a son. The funeral will take place at 4.15  o'clock on Sunday afternoon from St. Matthew's church to the Brandon  cemetery. The family and near relatives have the sympathy of the whole  community in their recent bereavement.
